|Reports are now claiming the office of Ukraine’s general prosecutor is reviewing its own investigations into the gas company linked to the Bidens. This, as Democrats publish a series of text messages that they claim shows the Trump Administration trying to coerce Ukrainian officials. RT’s Rachel Blevins joins me now to break|
|Ukraine’s general prosecutor confirmed that his office is conducting an audit of a past investigation into the private gas company that has ties to the Bidens. He claims his office is auditing a total of 15 cases from the past to determine if they were closed illegally.|
During a press conference, he said that “Not a single foreign or Ukrainian official or politician has called me or tried to influence my decisions regarding specific criminal cases.”
Among those cases is an investigation into the Burisma Group over tax irregularities and allegations of money laundering. Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, was not specifically mentioned in that investigation, which closed in 2016, but he did spend 5 years as a board member of the group.
Hunter Biden began that role in 2014 when his father oversaw US policy in Ukraine as vice president. And he left the group in April of this year, which is also the same month Joe Biden announced he was running for president.
So if Ukraine does launch a new investigation that implicates the Bidens that could have serious implications both for Joe Biden’s campaign and for the ongoing impeachment inquiry against Trump.
Top Democrats in the House released a series of text messages between Trump Administration officials.
They say the messages were provided by the former special envoy to Ukraine after he resigned last week, and was then grilled by lawmakers for nearly 10 hours behind closed doors on Thursday. In a message from the day before the infamous phone call between President Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky, Kurt Volker reached out to one of Zelenksy’s top advisors and wrote,
“Heard from White House—assuming President Z convinces Trump he will investigate / ‘get to the bottom of what happened’ in 2016, we will nail down date for visit to Washington.”
This is notable because while they do mention Ukraine looking into that investigation from 2016, the text messages make it sound like it was in exchange for a meeting between the two leaders in DC.
However, the initial reports that came out about this case claimed the Trump Administration was withholding more than $400 million in military aid until an investigation was launched into the Bidens.
Trump has not denied that he encouraged Ukrainian officials to look into corruption surrounding the Bidens’ business dealings in the country.
He then doubled down on Thursday, and said that not only should Ukraine investigate the Bidens, but China should too, over claims that Hunter Biden received $1.5 billion dollars from Chinese companies attempting to gain favor with his father.
Meanwhile, reports claim the White House plans to send a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi “daring” her to hold a formal vote on Trump’s impeachment in the House, and then claiming he refuses to comply with the Democrats’ impeachment inquiry until that vote is taken.
