Turkish Offensive Kills Dozens In Syria—Media Wakes Up To The Horror of Civilian Casualties

The mainstream media appeared to discover the horrors of civilian casualties when Turkey launched a military offensive into northeastern Syria, despite staying silent on the Syrian civilians killed by the United States.

On the ground in north-eastern Syria, around two dozen Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces and one dozen Syrian civilians were killed after Turkey launched a military offensive targeting the Kurds.

In the first 24 hours, more than 64,000 Syrian fled from their homes, and reports estimate that the offensive has the power to displace more than 300,000 people in the area.

However, a representative for Turkish President Erdogan insisted that this is simply a border dispute. He told RT, “You cannot imagine a situation where Americans will allow, for example, a branch of Al-Qaeda or Daesh along the American-Mexican border just because Al-Qaeda fights drug cartels.

Despite years of receiving weapons and arms support from the US, the Kurds have no heavy weapons. They have no missiles and no anti-aircraft or anti-tank weapons. Essentially, the US gave the Kurds weapons to fight ISIS—but not Turkey.

Up until now, the Kurds have been essential in not only fighting ISIS, but also keeping around 10,000 ISIS prisoners. Trump’s decision to turn over those prisoners to Turkey has sparked concerns that they will wreak havoc in Syria. There are also concerns that some of the prisoners will return to their homes in Europe, and Trump has said, “It’s Europe’s problem.
