Trump claims he will mobilize the US Military to administer coronavirus vaccines, as he names a former Big Pharma exec to lead “Operation Warp Speed,” the plan to fast-track a vaccine by the end of the year…
On today’s edition of “Why Isn’t Anyone Talking About This?” President Trump claims he plans to mobilize the US Military, in order to administer coronavirus vaccines.
At the same time, Trump has named Moncef Slaoui, a former exec from GlaxoSmithKline, to lead “Operation Warp Speed,” a plan to create 300 million doses by the end of 2020 of a vaccine that still has yet to be created.
This is not an argument about the need for a coronavirus vaccine, it is a conversation on whether the Trump Administration is pursuing the safest and most legitimate options.
There have been a number of red flags, starting with Trump’s decision to put Jared Kushner—who is not a medical expert—in charge of US efforts to develop a vaccine for the coronavirus.
Now Trump’s latest decision to involve a former Big Pharma exec in the process raises even more concerns, given the fact that the last time we talked about Big Pharma was because they were fueling a massive and deadly opioid crisis here in the US, which is still ongoing today, even though the media no longer talks about it.
It is also incredibly important that when the US does green-light a coronavirus vaccine, they get it right. Because in the US, vaccine makers face no legal liability for the effects of their products. So, if the US government fast-tracks a coronavirus vaccine, but the side effects ruin your quality of life for the rest of your life, the best you can hope for is a settlement in court.
Trump’s claim that he plans to involve the military raises even more concerns about his administration’s plans for the vaccine. One of your most basic personal rights is the ability to decide what is or is not put in your body—but we also have the right to ask questions and demand answers from a government that is making decisions that will impact us all. And that is something everyone should be talking about.
