The US claims it wants control of oil in Syria to keep resources away from ISIS—but it’s actually an excuse to keep troops on the ground while stealing resources from the Syrian Gov’t. The goal of the US has always been to overthrow Bashar al-Assad and that hasn’t changed…
On today’s edition of ‘Why Isn’t Anyone Talking About This?’ months after President Trump stated that the only reason US troops were remaining in Syria was to seize the country’s oil, US officials are now claiming that a virtually unknown firm in Delaware has made a deal with the Kurds to secure the oil.
While the US claims the goal is to keep the oil from ISIS so that the group cannot regain control, what they are actually doing is creating an excuse to keep troops on the ground in the country, while stealing natural resources from the Syrian Government.
Anyone who has paid attention to US foreign policy in Syria over the years knows that the goal has always been to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad. It is a mission shared by top US allies such as Israel and Saudi Arabia. However, when it came to the Obama Administration, they went a step further than just issuing sanctions and launching a propaganda campaign in the media against Assad.
The Obama Administration also created a program to arm and train what they called “moderate rebels” in Syria. While the program was largely considered a failure, it helped extremists in the country obtain power like never before, and within months, the mainstream media was warning of a terrorist group on the rise called “ISIS.”
While ISIS did not succeed in overthrowing the Assad government, it did give the US an excuse to get directly involved in the country because their nearly two-decade long “War on Terror” is supposed to be aimed at eliminating terrorism—and while that mission is questionable, it led to the US inserting itself directly into Syria, without the consent of the country’s government.
Now, while ISIS is largely defeated, the threat of the group’s resurgence has served as the United States’ claim that it needs to keep troops on the ground in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan. However, it is no secret that the US is responsible for creating the environment and providing the tools for a group like ISIS to gain power in the first place.
The reality is that the original goal was to overthrow Assad—and that goal not changed. It is not about bringing “freedom and democracy” to the region, it is about control—and that is something everyone should be talking about.
